Max Cooper — Woven Ancestry (Remixes)
Begge får mig ud i øregasme!
Max Cooper — Woven Ancestry (Olaf Stuut Remix)
“The original really spoke to me because of the brilliant use of acoustic instruments, Max used the traditional instruments to turn it into a psychedelic ambient piece. The first time I listened to it, it immediately inspired me to chop it up and turn it all around. I always try to really honor the original by making the remix highly recognizable but also make something totally new with it. In my own music I am always pretty focused on harmonies so the beautiful melodies in ‘Woven Ancestry’ made it very easy for me to work with.
So I kept true to the chords and added my personal flavor to it. The timing on the other hand was a bigger challenge, after a couple of hours of cutting and pasting I came to a result that was something I could work with. I chose to take a triplet approach to give the track a laidback feel and still give it a danceable tempo, without making the melodies too chaotic and rushed. The main idea was to keep the track organic; I used acoustic drums, a fretless bass and my own voice to give it a more human feel. I added the somewhat haunting pads to make a nice contrast between the rhythmical harps, kora’s and cello’s Max used so well.
The track became a long and stretched piece, in the hope it would be a small journey, just like the original. I hope you like it, enjoy!”
